Knit & Purl a X'mas project

One fine day over msn chat, my friend told me about her interest in knitting. Somehow she got me interested too. And we met up on a Saturday to find out more at Spotlight. The next day we started our lesson. I wanted to drop out due to the cost ($90/12hrs excl. materials costing about $50) but decided to invest in a new hobby. Who knows maybe I've a hidden talent in knitting and one day i'll sell my works? hahaha....*dreaming only lah!*

It's a good idea to learn with someone at the same level. The rest of the students were intermediate/advance, knitting caps, tops etc. We didn't even know what yarn to get! We thought it's just choosing of colors, only to learn that we've to choose the same type (crepe/normal, 8/12 ply, aryclic/wool, dye code, brand). After we settled that we did the "cast-on", followed by alternating rows of knit & purl. So confusing!! I did a row of purl wrongly at home and didn't know how to undo the mistake. I ended up unpicking everything & started from the beginning again.

At our second lesson we started to do alternate knit & purl in a row. Very confusing! As I'm unable to recognize the different stitches, i had to chant "Knit, put front, purl, put back, knit, put front, purl, put back" while knitting. One missed/wrong stitch might mean redoing quite a bit. *Put front/put back means the position of the yarn* My friend & I stopped chatting, our eyes focused on the 2 sticks & yarn, chanting away.

I'm going for my 3rd lesson tomorrow. We'll learn how to blend in a different color. I hope after blending in the colors I can concentrate on the "body" of the muffler. Two lessons down & I'm only 3-inches done! Need to complete this big project soon coz I want to give it to my bf as his x'mas gift. He's very excited about it so I can't just abandon this project.

Now my hands & shoulders are stiff....eyes tired.... I wonder how grandmas can knit as a full-time hobby!

J-drama: My Boss My Hero

Everyone's into Korean dramas now but I still like Japanese dramas. However it's difficult to find new titles at shops these days. So I bought some online. In my recent spree, I bought 5 titles! Now I know where all my money has gone to....hehehe

I'm done with 2 titles, now onto my 3rd one. I'm crazy over the song from the drama "My Boss My Hero". It's a comedy about a 27-year old gangster who's been sent back to high school (posing as a 17-yr old) because he's too stupid! hahaha! He must graduate from high school in order to succeed his father's mafia business. It's a very entertaining drama -- funny yet touching. Tomoya Nagase from the J-pop group TOKIO did a great job as the gangster cum student. A must for all Tomoya Nagase fans!

Zoo for a day again

Remember my post in June on Zoo for a day? It happened again on Wednesday. This time it's for my Phonics class. Having gone through a round in June, i'm less stressed out over it this time. But i still had a nightmare of it the night before....and it turned out to be true!

The class i worried about most behaved at their best. The class i liked most gave me the most problems. So strange.... Luckily all the parents gave good ratings for the lesson. And my HOD who was there for the worst class acknowledged that the 2 troublemarkers in my class are known to be difficult to handle. So i don't feel too bad for being unable to control them. In normal lessons, i would have sent them to sit at a corner alone or lecture them. With the parents around, i had to be nice. What a show!

The school should do away with stupid Open Day for parents. Kids & teachers behave differently on Open Days. Lessons are different from usual too coz we can't show parents that we spend the whole lesson writing or playing etc...
