Lunar outing

After the fun outing to St James with my siblings & their friends last year, my siblings decided to organize another one last Friday. This time to Lunar. And this time round it's a bigger group of around 15 persons?

For the first time I went clubbing with my sec sch friend, Zhenni. Those uni days we did go for some bash, but that was different coz it was usually uni club activity. It was very crowded & hardly anyone was dancing at the small dance floor then. I was really bored & kept drinking. By 12am I was a goner liao. But I still could drag myself to another party. Heehee....

My jie-meis!

There was a live band performing Mandarin & Canto-pop but the standard wasn't impressive. It was like watching some getai performance, esp the one with a female singer & her dancers wearing some ugly plastic looking costume. The male singer was the worst. Sing until wrong beat wrong chorus. And tried to act cool. Bad singing is bearable only if there's some eye candy!

I guess because I hardly listen to Chinese/Canto-pop, I can't really appreciate the performance. I still prefer to go for the ahgua's performance at Boiler Rm to laugh at the crappy jokes.

Recommendations on where to chill out with good live performance is welcomed (^-^)

Hen's night party

This post is long overdue!

I had my hen's night party on 14 March (Fri), 2 days before my wedding. What I thought was just a normal drinks session with only ONE close friend turned out to be a GROUP party with me selling condoms to strangers! Rather shy to go around, my friends had to escort me & helped me ask.

My first 2 buyers

He didn't believe I was getting married. Didn't buy any but gave me a bottle of skin firming cream sample!

The gang behind the party idea

I've no idea why guys are present at a hen's night party when they aren't there to perform a striptease show for me!

I sold none of the condoms but received about $20+ from the people I approached. Were they too embarrassed to take it or they have no use for it? It was quite fun initially but I soon felt very bored & left for another party with other friends. Didn't expect to have a hen's night party. The gang sure kept the secret party plan well! Thanks gals!

Princess Baobao

Haha, that's me! I never thought of myself as a princess but my closest primary school friend felt that I'm like one. I don't know why. Maybe I give people the impression that I'm high maintenance? That I need to be served & taken care of like a princess? Or I really behave like a spoil brat?

Hmm....or maybe I have that sweet yet elegant demeanor of a princess? Ya, that must be it! HAHAHA!

Anyway, my dear Frog Prince, thanks for the lovely card!
And yes, may my reign never end!

1st Mambo experience

haha, I know I sound very "sua gu", but I finally went to experience Mambo at Zouk yesterday when all my peers have already outlived that phase of their lives. My friend was telling me "You'll enjoy and have fun because it's those songs you grew up with". Ya right, I went there and duno 1/2 the songs there lor. But I did have fun anyway.

It was pretty entertaining to see people dancing with the same steps. In particular there was a guy who looked mid-30s dancing on the raised platform with much enthusiasm for hours! There were another 2 rows of people on stepped platforms dancing with the same steps. Felt as if I'm watching some kind of dance / concert performance. Quite entertaining. Maybe one day I'll go there again when I'm bored.....

New look

Like the new look of my blog? I felt the dark blue was too dull....makes one feel really blue. This light aqua blue is better?

What about the main picture? That's 1 of my favorite photo taken in New Zealand. I can imagine myself sitting on that bench looking out at the lovely scenery, enjoying the breeze, reading a book or just daydream... That's the best place for a dreamy sheep like me!

OMG! I'm 29 already?!

Damned....I'm 12 months away from hitting 30! Although I've just turned 29, I don't feel old. I'm still young at heart. Not sure if I'm considered matured since everyone has their own definition of maturity. In terms of looks, thanks to my small build, I can shave a few years off my actual age. In short, 29 is just a number that doesn't reflect the true state of our mentality & physical self!

Some people think when you reach a certain age, you are supposed to have accomplished something, or follow the norms of people in that age group, e.g. hold a certain position in a company, earn certain amount of $$, be attached or married etc.

I look around and realize all my friends have a stable job with good income. I'm the only one still bumming around. I could've stayed on in my HR job and be some executive in some company now but I chose to go into a 1-yr teaching contract that lasted 2 yrs. Crazy move, some would say. But I never regretted it even though it means a step back in my career path. My parents must have been disappointed. But who cares? That's my decision & my life.

Does hitting late 20s mean having to get married, have kids & be a good housewife? I used to have the thinking that I want to get married by 25, have 2 kids by 30 and live a simple life holding a stable job or be a full-time housewife. Now I wonder why on earth I had that thought. It isn't exactly bad to settle down early but I think I'm such a dreamer with many crazy plans in mind, that I'll feel like a bird with clipped wings at that age.

I went to see a doctor recently regarding family planning. His immed reaction was "29 already still don't want babies?" Idiot! Aren't there many over-aged mothers out there surviving well? Ok, from a medical point of view it isn't good. But I'd rather wait till I'm ready than just try to hit the age deadline. For those wondering, ya, I don't want to be a mother yet. I think I'm not ready although I thought I was 1 year ago. Things change. People change. Now I realize I'm not really mentally prepared for motherhood yet.

In a flash, 29 years have passed. I wonder what I've done since graduation at age 22. Work 2 years, study overseas 1 year, work 4 yrs. So what's next?

I think it's going to be a year in limbo for me. No job, shuttling between Singapore & Japan, trying to adapt to life overseas + reducing the attachment to S'pore in order to reduce homesickness. Making new friends overseas + trying to keep friendship alive in S'pore. Learning Japanese + maintaining my command of English, Chinese & Singlish. Sounds easy or a challenge? I really don't know.

I think my life has been pretty interesting from early 20s onwards. And it's going to be even more interesting in future. Be prepared to read more posts of complaints, crazy thoughts, short updates or no posts at all if I'm overwhelmed with changes in life or simply too lazy! haha!

New Zealand trip

My trip to New Zealand was short but we certainly took many shots! I've selected & uploaded 1/4 of the shots. Don't expect to see many photos of us together coz I'm more interested in photos of scenery, buildings and anything else that interests me.

NZ is a beautiful place. I could just snap away and they all turn out well. Must thank my trusty Canon IXUS 860IS which did a wonderful job. Some shots were taken using the digital zoom of up to 12x and turned out fine. Well worth the money spent on it!

As the saying goes "A picture is worth a thousand words"... So no need to blog about it anymore. "Read" it on my photoblog! haha!

Days of being free...

I can't believe it! After I came back from honeymoon on 24/3, I've done nothing much for 3 weeks! Ok, the week I was back I was busy with unpacking & bringing people around & catching up with friends. The next 2 weeks (1st April till now) was a blur. What did I do? A typical day is waking up late, eat brunch, surf net, play piano, go swimming, read books. Or go watch movie, enjoy aircon in central library, walk around orchard. I've never been more relaxed!

I've watched the most movies this month. Empress & her warriors (quite crappy), Untraceable (sick & psychotic), Gone baby gone (quite ok), Street Kings (not bad). The latter 2 doesn't keep u on the edge but makes u wonder & think what's right or wrong. What would you have done in their shoes?

I've read a bit more than usual. The Pursuit of Happyness (inspiring read), Perfume (a murder story that i gave up half-way), A Fractured Mind (quite nice, abt multiple personality disorder), a book which i forgot title but it's about people who think they are sick & get paranoid over every little symptom, Yakuza Moon (about mafia's daughter, not fantastic read). I'm currently reading This is Paradise, about a boy's childhood in North Korea. Interesting & detailed.

Did I mention I took up salsa dancing after reading about it on my friend's blog? She seemed to be having so much fun I decided to try it too. Gone for 2 lessons already. I'm quite clumsy & keep forgetting the steps. My partners have been really patient. It's funny to see how shy guys are when we ladies aren't!

Not sure what I'm going to do for the rest of the month. I'm thinking of a trip to somewhere.....

My Birthday

Celebrated my birthday last week over 2 days. Day 1 was at home with my family. Simple one. Just cake. After that I went for a show with my friends followed by kopi & cake. Day 2 which is the actual day, I did something unusual. I went to the Science Centre alone. I've not been there for years. The last trip was during primary sch days? The place has become brighter & more colorful. Many interesting hands-on exhibits. Can be quite exhausting though.... information overload!

After Science Centre I went to Vivocity to shop before "parking" myself at Superdog, a fast-food restaurant that sells yummy hotdog buns. A little pricey, but I love the tender, juicy hotdog! *drool* Read my book & eat & relax there for almost 2 hrs.

In the evening I drove in to Sentosa to watch the "Song of the Sea" performance. It's the revamped version of the old musical fountain. Interesting performance and better than the old one. They still have some silly storyline line & childish laser displays, but overall it's fine. Watch it once is enough but I wouldn't mind a 2nd round if it's free! heehee

I strolled along the beach for a while before heading off to St James. I went to Boiler Room to watch the live band & listen to the crappy jokes while waiting for my friends to join me. We celebrated with drinks & dance before heading home in the morning.

So that's my 29th birthday. Nothing special. Was it a happy one? Hmm.... i guess i was happiest with my friends!
