Merry Christmas!

Our xmas celebration started last Friday (22/12). We went to my bf's colleague's home for a party. It ended at 12am but as he had some beer, we couldn't go home immediately. Had hot coffee & salad at a 24hrs cafe till he felt ok to drive, which was like 2 hrs later? By the time we reached home it was 3am. Surprisingly we were wide awake by then, so we watched vcd till around 4am.

Saturday morning (23/12) was spent sleeping at home. We went supermarket shopping in the afternoon. As we had plans to go to church on the eve of Xmas, we decided to have our xmas dinner on Saturday instead. We had "yakiniku" (bbq meat) at home. O-i-shi-i!!! Very yummy dinner. Ate so much that i wanted to puke already so we went for a stroll after that.

On Xmas eve we woke up at noon, had brunch, then went to some parks by the sea. Beautiful.....I'll upload the photos soon. As my bf's a Catholic, we went to church in the evening. I didn't understand anything coz the japanese used was beyond my ability. And I'm a free-thinker with limited knowledge of other religions. By the time church service ended, it was 8.30pm. We were cold & hungry but it's too late for any romantic xmas dinner outside. We ended up eating bread & nice, yummy "oden" (it's like yong-tau-foo) at a convenience store nearby.

It's Christmas Day today but no public holiday in Japan. My bf's at work while i stay home to nuah. After uploading this blog, I'll prepare lunch. Probably take afternoon nap after lunch coz it's cold & rainy today.....perfect weather to nuah at home!

Btw, we've yet to exchange presents....hmm...wonder what he's giving me...

Life of a housewife?

Since Monday I've been staying at home to be a "housewife". It's either raining or too cold to go out, so I'd rather stay home. Today was sunny though, but I stayed home due to a backache.

We wake up at 7am everyday. We prepare & have breakfast together, then he goes off to work at 8.30am. He's home at around 5.30pm, so that means I've 9 hrs to kill at home.

Day 1 - I tidied up his kitchen & study room. He came home for lunch so I had to cook something. It was a simple dish of stir-fry broccoli with pork. He really liked it. I guess he missed home-cooked meals. After he went back to work, i watched a movie on PC, surfed net, cooked dinner. After dinner we watched a Japanese drama on vcd.

Day 2 - I was very sleepy after breakfast & went back to sleep after he left for work. Did the laundry after I woke up. Also cleaned up the house a little. I spent the rest of the day making X'mas decorations. I made paper-chains out of magazines to hang. It's a simple yet colorful decoration. I made some "snow-flakes" too. Cut out patterns from normal white paper & hung them from a string at the front door. He had a pleasant surprise when he came home to find it "snowing" at the entrance. We both like it so much that I've decided to make more of it to hang around at home.

After dinner we went supermarket shopping. He likes to shop at supermarket too, so it was fun for us to walk thru every aisle in the supermarket, looking at the various products. We ended up buying more than we planned. Bad idea to shop together! hehehe.....

Day 3 - As usual, I went back to bed after breakfast. PIG! hahaha! Did the laundry then looked thru cookbooks on what to cook tonight. Continued with the snowflakes decoration then started dinner preparation at 4.30pm. He was home by 5.30pm. After dinner he went out for rugby practice while i stay at home to type this post.

I'm not sure what i'll do tomorrow. I'm quite comfortable relaxing at home for the time being. But i think i'll start complaining of boredom next week! I like this life of a housewife but i still want to work.....sort of holding "2 jobs" -- home & outside. Life is more interesting like that.

Help! My car's stucked!

I finally reached the lovely island Amami-oshima after 15hrs of travelling on Saturday. The weather was cool & rainy. I didn't do anything much, just went home after a brieft supermarket trip. Yesterday we went to explore other parts of the island. Cloudy & rainy, I didn't take much photos.

We wanted to eat our packed lunch in the car, looking at the sea. Just when we thought we found a nice spot to park the car, we found ourselves stucked! The place where we thought was a carpark was actually just a piece of land filled with sand. The car went up & couldn't move after that. There was nobody in sight. Panic!

First my bf tried to scoop away the sand at the tyres with his hands. Still stucked. We went to a house nearby to borrow a big scoop (there were some small plots of home garden/farms). While my bf was trying his best to get the car out, a guy from the village came & offered his help. He spoke to my bf then disappeared. Next moment he appeared with his lorry, ferrying planks of wood. His son also came to help. They hoisted up the car tyre and placed a plank of wood underneath.

By now, there was a gathering of 4 villagers here to kaypoh. Then another 2 more came. This time round it's 2 strong guys. Apparently they had heard about what happened and came to help. With all the guys' help, the car was finally out of the sand. What a relief!

At first we thought we'll be stucked there for a long time coz there was nobody around, and it being a Sunday, many people might be out. Luck was on our side. We were lucky to have people coming out of their homes on a cold & windy day to help us. And very lucky that one of them had long planks of wood that was of great help in getting the car out.

I think this is the community/kampong spirit that my bf has been telling me about. Everyone knows everybody in the village. They are friendly & helpful. We're strangers in the village but they did everything they could to help us. Very touched......

Amami-oshima.....here I come!

I'm flying off to Japan tonight & will be back in January. I'm so excited coz I'm going to the island where my boyfriend is. It's my first trip there & my first Christmas & New Year with him. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for 3 weeks there though...... Maybe be a good housewife and cook him nice meals & do the laundry?

I'll try to post some photos here if I can during this period. I'm not bringing my laptop, and his old PC is slow + he's using dial-up for internet. It'll take forever for the photos to be uploaded.....
